IHE Policy Webinar: Combination Regimens - Reimbursement Challenges and Solutions
Combination therapy is the use of two or more therapies with the intention of improving patient health which are increasingly becoming more prevalent in the health system. Combination therapies can be produced by a single manufacturer but often the various components of the combination are produced by different companies which creates complexities in terms of pricing and reimbursement arrangements. This is a growing area of policy attention internationally with countries taking different paths to addressing the problem. The Institute of Health Economics conducted a workshop in 2022 to examine a path forward to create a made-in-Canada approach and outlining some foundational activities required to be prepared to address this issue. The webinar will outline the key findings from the workshop.

2023 CADTH Symposium: Shaping Future-Ready Health Systems
The CADTH Symposium has a well-earned reputation as a “must attend” event for anyone with an interest in the assessment, adoption, and management of drugs and medical devices. After 15 years as an in-person event, the Symposium successfully shifted to a virtual format in 2020 and 2021 to help prevent the spread of COVID-19, at the same time protecting the health and safety of attendees, presenters, and staff. Over 2,000 delegates and presenters participated online from across Canada and beyond including health researchers; health economists; senior leaders from government, regional health authorities, hospitals, and other facilities; clinicians and patients; students; and industry representatives.
Building on that success, the 2023 CADTH Symposium is expanding to a three-day hybrid event that will provide both in-person and virtual attendance options and will offer more sessions, more presenters, and new opportunities for networking and engagement. The in-person program will take place at the Shaw Centre in Ottawa, Ontario.
Topics of discussion will include:
• Methods to address uncertainty in health policy and health care delivery
• Changing needs of patients, clinicians, and policy-makers
• High-priority topics for health technology assessment
• Real-world evidence
• Drugs for rare diseases
• Virtual health care
• Digital health and artificial intelligence
• Methods to address unconscious bias in health research
• And much more!

Genome BC'S 2023 Annual Genomics Forum
Precision health care promises to target the right treatments to the right patients at the right time. And while genomics technologies have been used to effectively treat patients in health research for decades, thereby revolutionizing patient care, there are areas where these transformational technologies have not yet had a major impact.
Join Genome BC on May 3, 2023, this year’s Annual Genomics Forum as they discuss the power and hurdles of integrating genomics into patient management and how we can ensure maximum value is derived from samples and patient data.
Other countries have been leading the way in translational genomics research through initiatives such as “All of Us”, inviting one million people across the United States to help build one of the most diverse health databases in history. Australia Genomics has established a national collaboration supporting the translation of genomic research into clinical practice. And Genomics England’s initiative to sequence 100,000 genomes of patients affected by rare diseases or cancer is providing groundbreaking insights and continued findings into the role genomics can play in health care. Though efforts such as these have yet to materialize in Canada, can we leverage already existing biobanks and health data administration systems to make gains and fulfil the promise of precision health for Canadians?

Genome-Based Precision Medicine with Don Husereau
On May 1st and 2nd, join Don Husereau to learn how Alberta is positioned to take advantage of Genome-Based Precision Medicine and what to expect from the “State of Readiness” Progress Report.
Genomic medicine harbors the real potential to improve patients’ health and healthcare journey, care provider experiences, and improve health system efficiency – even reducing health care costs. Unlike traditional healthcare technology, genome-based testing can also create scientific research and commercial opportunities beyond healthcare decision-making.
The “State of Readiness” Progress Report examines barriers to its broader dissemination in Canada and potential solutions to remedy these.
Those attending the talk will learn how Alberta is doing relative to the rest of Canada, and what more can be done to improve Alberta’s approach to genomic medicine.
