Episode 6: RHC’s Joint Mandate Letter - Where Do We Go From Here?

The Resilient Healthcare Coalition (RHC) is committed to building a stronger and more interconnected health and life sciences ecosystem that is more resilient, more patient-centred, and more integral to Canada’s economic recovery than ever before. That is why the RHC has released a proposed joint mandate letter signed by health system leaders from industry, research, associations and advocacy groups across the public, private and non-profit sectors.

This mandate letter is drafted as inspiration for Prime Minister Justin Trudeau to use as he develops the mandates of his cabinet ministers and is addressed to both the Ministers of Health and of Innovation, Science, and Industry. The letter reflects RHC’s top five principles that it believes the federal government must address, to not only protect the health of Canadians, but also to protect the health of our economy.

The letter starts with a targeted focus on two objectives: (A) optimizing the use of health care data to develop and deploy more coordinated, integrated, and effective virtual care; and (B) expanding and accelerating access to innovative health technologies – from vaccines and diagnostics to therapeutics and medical devices. From closing the widening research gap to expanding the pan-Canadian Health Data Strategy to reducing the time it takes to bring new innovations to patients, the letter captures the RHC’s bold and essential policy objectives and the principles behind them that are needed to create more resilient health care systems.

In this episode, Ross Wallace is joined by:

  • Nicole DeKort, President & CEO, MedTech Canada

  • Connie Côté, CEO, Health Charities Coalition of Canada

  • Carlene Todd, Vice President, Access, Roche Canada
