Summary Of The Leaders Roundtable - Building Resilient Healthcare Systems For A Post-Crisis Era
COVID-19 has both exposed and exacerbated the most fragile aspects of Canadian healthcare systems and dramatically impacted the health of Canadians in numerous ways. From testing and treatment delays for cancer patients, ballooning surgical wait times, and intensified mental health challenges across populations, to insufficient and antiquated supplies of personal protective equipment – the implications have been direct and indirect. Shared efforts to manage and mitigate a historic public health crisis are being fast-tracked and a global conversation is emerging around the need to build more resilient healthcare systems., including a call for systems to shift from a singular focus on cost containment to more comprehensive and holistic approaches that harness new evidence-based innovations to better predict and prevent disease.
Determined to spark new conversations and catalyze collaboration, more than 50 health sector leaders came together on November 26th to explore how best to build Canadian health care systems that are stronger, more adaptable and ultimately more resilient.
